With the current islamophobe spreading the world like wide fire, it becomes important on some Muslim to "clear the air" on certain events.
Sometimes people hate you because hating you helps with their low self esteem and makes them feel much better about themselves in their own little twisted world. This is where the likes of Donald Trump comes in.
As a muslim, I speak for myself and not all muslims, we might all believe in same book, same religion and pray the same way but we are a people from diverse communities with different economy, languages, race, cultures et al.
Even though we are different in our ways, Islam helps create strong brotherhood between Muslims and break the boundary and division our race, countries, cultures or languages may bring. Apart from teaching her followers to love others irrespective of their religion, islam places a special emphasis on love for a fellow Muslim and this is why many Muslim would leave the comfort of their home to go fight for other Muslims in another country.
People would instantly blame you for harming someone, but they would be reluctant to ask you why you harmed the person, they would blame you for stealing but would not want to hear your own side of the story, not that we should make excuses for committing evil acts, but knowing what led to it and hearing from all sides would go a long way helping us stop others from going to the same misguided path.
For those keen observers of recent events happening in the world, the emergence of ISIS or support they get around the world from some Muslims should not come as a surprise. We all knew it was bound to happen one way or another.
According to PEW(an international organization that takes statistics on religious growth etc), they claim that 10% of Muslims world wide support ISIS.
10% might seem like a small percentage but in reality, 10% of billions of Muslims world wide supporting "ISIS" should definately not be acceptable but the truth is that, we have all been following this issue wrongly.
Everyone is fast to demonise ISIS, governments are trying to warn people that ISIS is evil and a baberic group that enjoys harming others.
We might be wondering, how does such brutal group seem appealing to people?
Why would a young boy or girl in Europe, in America, in middle east, in Africa and elsewhere leave the comfort of their home, abandon everything and move thousands of miles to join a group which simply enjoy harming others?
Obviously, that is where we all get it wrong, ISIS is not a group that "markets" its self as "the devil", ISIS does not come and tell people:
"Hey, join our group, we enjoy beheading people, we enjoy raping young girls, and we enjoy being monsters", ISIS do not say that, rather ISIS is a group that says:
"Hey Muslim brothers and Sisters world wide, hear our cry, hear our plea; United States government have been invading Muslim countries at will, they have been killing muslims for years with no one holding them to account, they destroyed IRAQ, destroyed Libya and have been in forefront of causing chaos in Muslim nations. They have killed millions of muslims under false pretence, United states supported by western government and their Arab pupperts have destroyed us, please come to our rescue, support us the way you can, help us liberate our nations".
ISIS uses the emotions of Muslims to gain support just like people like Donald Trump uses the fear of their people to gain support.
Any observer by now would notice the injustice of American wars and invasions, anyone who seeks the truth would agree that United states have single handedly destroyed many Muslim nations and in some cases, they get cheers from Western nations, so if this proxy wars of theirs in return create enemies against them or create those bound to revenge, it shouldn't come as a surprise.
How would you think an 18year boy would feel watching all his family massacred by someone? Would you honestly expect flowers? Or would you expect to create many monsters ready to harm your nation in name of revenge? Obviously this is the case of some of this people harming people.
We all want to condemn Taliban, we all want to condemn ISIS, we all want to condemn Hamas but we refuse to condemn those acts by certain governments that create this groups, how then would we truly find a lasting solution when we continually engage in same acts that creates this group?
Now as the heading states: "Why did I Once support ISIS"?
When ISIS first emerged, the whole details of the group was not generally known to many, according to them, they were trying to liberate IRAQ and Syria from the whole killings and disaster.
As someone who prays for peace world wide, and seeing how IRAQ has been in mess since after United states led invasion and constant meddling of some gulf countries in IRAQ, I felt that any powerful group that can rally other minor groups and then come to terms with the central government to create stability would then no doubt be good for the country and atleast create some sort of peace.
Even though I supported ISIS then, I, however was never going to travel and enlist to fight by their side, I am an individual who hates fighting or wars, I hate seeing blood of any kind including those of animals but it does not mean I should not give moral support to those who engage in good fights(atleast that was what I believed ISIS was doing). The Media were all talking about how ISIS is devil etc, and just like me, millions of people world wide do not trust the media's narrative of anything this days, afterall the United states media help convince people IRAQ had WMD and was a threat to America. The trust many have for the world media have dwindled over the years and as such, I was never going to accept the media's narrative about ISIS, but after some months of ISIS emergence, I began to see the true colors of ISIS and their brutality. I realize that they were nothing but a group of monsters who enjoy killing people. -That is my own personal case.
As years pass by, stories of people emerged, those who travelled to fight along side ISIS but after realising the group has been lying, this people then try to escape and return back home.
From this stories, we would realize that the support ISIS get from some Muslims is not because this Muslims enjoy seeing people get killed, it is simply because this Muslims, deep down inside do not know who to believe and as such, refuse to believe the brutality stories the Media report. This is why a young boy would leave the comfort of his home in Europe, in America, in Asia and elsewhere and travel to fight along side ISIS but then, when they get close to ISIS, they realize that they have simply been deceived by ISIS narrative of being the saviour and freedom fighters.
If we must fight ISIS and groups like ISIS, then we must first try and create trust between governments and the people, we must work towards educating people on what groups like ISIS stands for and we must be able to condemn events that lead to their creations, dropping bombs on them would not be enough to stop groups like ISIS.
Condemning ISIS while supporting what led to the creation of this group is simply a case of : "One step forward and two steps backward".
We Condemn Hamas for their tactis, and still support Israel aggression, intimidation and killing of innocent Palestinians, we continually support and shield the oppressors instead of the oppressed.
We would all Condemn ISIS but gladly look away as countries like United state invade and meddle in this countries yet we claim we do not know where the whole problem started in the first place?
