Yesterday it was that the President engaged in lopsided appointment, today it is the missing budget, tomorrow it might be that Nigeria has been sold to China- Nothing exactly should surprise us this days. There is always one controversial story or another making round and in the end, it would "die down" and everyone would move on. Sometimes these stories might be true, sometimes it is totally false.
There is ofcourse a lot of false information circulating in the country today and when one tries to figure out why this is, the reason for it isn't really that hard to find.
Since after the 2015 election in Nigeria, there arise constant and indirect war between 4 key groups in the country. This key players have taken over the nation today and held Nigeria to ransom, the groups involved are:
1. The Anti-Nigeria people(those trying so hard to make sure the nation fails).
2. The Anti-President people(dislike the president with passion for no good reason and constantly wishing him and his administration ill).
3. The pro-pdp folks(supports everything pdp party does no matter how insane it is and also feels that the more they make the president look bad, the more their party has an opportunity to reclaim power by 2019) and finally,
4. The pro-president folk(supports everything the president does no matter how insane it may seem).
Had it been between USA and Russia, this indirect war would have been tagged as "cold war" but seeing this is between Nigerians, the right word to use would be: "Frustration war", for the whole issue that gave birth to this catastrophic situation in the first place is: "Politics of bitterness" and no doubt, the frustration that accompanied it. Most keen observers of the Nigerian political situation would understand what that mean.
As this "Frustration war" continuous, social network has become a key battle ground for all those involved and this involves from the creation of blogs to the creation of news site to creation fake pages of politicians, all with sole aim of narrating their distorted version of real situation on the ground- Nothing is off limit when it comes to achieving their aims.
Online news media has become one of the frequently used channel most Nigerians rely on for their day to day source of information and whether this development is good for Nigeria or bad depends on how we all see it and the impact it has had in the society and with almost Zero regulation of the online news media, anyone can become a reporter no matter what the person's main aim is(good cause or a catastrophic one).
Over the years, a lot of online news sites have been created with sole aim of reporting fake news and propaganda and this ofcourse, meant that a new way of brainwashing Nigerians en-mass had emerged but then, with a lot of Nigerians readily and wholeheartedly willing to be brainwashed, this was a whole lot easier for those with bad intention because whatever they report no matter how insane it may sound would readily be assimilated by some Nigerians without proper investigation but depending on which of "the group" this Nigerians belong to, they would "cherry pick" what news they want to believe or what news they don't want to and then one can't help but wonder: "Who is fooling who" and "who is the bigger fool among the fools"?
Some Nigerians who wishes ill for the nation would not believe a credible news media which report that the military rescued more people from bokoharam and killed more terrorist but this people would readily and gladly believe a random blog that reports(without evidence)that the Nigerian army got defeated by bokoharam and this analysis to some extent is also true about the Pro-President group.
As annoying as that is, some Nigerians would still believe news reported by a random blog with no reliability what so ever- such is the height of ignorance in the nation, an ignorance that is constantly being spread like wildfire.
In a country where there is no law punishing those who fabricate false news or those who hope to provoke uprising in the country, anyone can easily create a news site and constantly spread whatever news they see fit.
In one hand we hear news sites reports that the government said this, and less than 24hours later, the news site reports that the government did not, such is the height of confusion. A confusion the mischievous enjoy, and with a divided senate caring more about party and personal gain than country's gain, the situation keeps getting ever more frustrating for those Nigerians who simply want a better country and not the dirty politicking in the country.
But whatever it may; whether it be the lies and propaganda from Anti-President players or the hate spreading from the Anti-Nigeria people. Whether it be the false hope and distortion of truth from the pro-President people or whether it be the political frustrations taking a new dimension.
Whatever it may, one thing is certain and that is: "the President, if alive, would complete his 4years tenure" for impeachment is almost impossible in Nigeria(for those who think spreading lie or campaigning for impeachment would work) and "all things will come to pass", the whole lies, the propaganda, the hate, the mischievous- it will all come to pass as it always does and whatever it may, it is the preisdent's legacy(good or bad), his achievements(good or bad) that would finally imprint his name among the best or the worst and giving the massive ignorance in Nigeria today with confused Nigerians tagging corrupt and failed politicians hero's, it will all end up to "neutral keen observers" to rate the President's overall performance in office and not his "blind" followers or his "ignorant" haters.
