Many a times, one might wonder; what is it with the human mind that makes it so hard to understand?
Why does it feel like something which seem very easy for you to understand, seems "almost impossible" for another to comprehend?
Why does it seem that one would hold so tight to their belief; "sincerely" believing that they are right and every other person is wrong even when in reality the former is on the wrong path as facts and situations "on the ground" would not back his or her claim?
At some point the individual that clearly see the truth might ask oneself if the other party sincerely feel they are right or maybe perhaps they only say one thing while deep down in their heart, they see the truth?
I guess we might never really know.
"The human mind is a set of cognitive faculties that enables consciousness, perception, thinking, judgement, and memory".
Understanding the human mind has never been an easy task yet for generations, many have not given up hope in their aim to continue exploring the distinctive features of the human mind.
There exist some important yet disturbing strangeness each individual display in the way they think, see things and understand their immediate surroundings and beyond.
Three important yet controversial topics would be pointed out in the course of this discussion and they included:
1. Religion
2. Politics
3. Other issues.
When it comes to religion and politics, a lot of people, especially friend's feel reluctant to discuss it when they are in opposing sides, they feel that this two issues, are topics better left untouched if they want a healthy friendship but how true this is, depends totally on how open minded and understanding one is.
After discussion, each individual can "agree to disagree" yet in their mind, they might feel the other party is "living a lie".
An Atheist see's those individual who believe in God as delusional, and living a fantasy; an illusion that there is a special place called heaven where the righteous would inherit. To the Atheist, the thought of this is very untrue and that a right thinking human would believe in a God they have not seen is totally wrong, especially in an advanced world like our's- An Atheist feels this way, and maybe sincerely feel the other person who believe in a God is delusional.
The person who believe in existence of "a creator" on the other hand would feel that it is totally crazy and disturbing that any right thinking human would deny that there is a God who created the universe and everything in it, it is totally insane that one would believe all what surround us just appeared "by chance"-The perfection of many things and the laws of the universe; the animals, human, mountain etc, this to the religious person seems totally impossible and as such, agreeing with the Atheist would be depriving their mind of its nature to believe in existence of a supreme being.
Between the Atheist and those who believe in God, they both strongly hold dear to their thoughts and might each be seeing one another as "mentally enslaved" or "living an illusion", they both strongly feel passionate about their stand and feel the other had simply refused to see the truth. This seems strange yet this is the reality.
When it comes to religion, there arise different types of religion and in certain religion are different denominations or sects opposing one another's views but all agreeing to one fact: "A God exist".
Among different religion, the other feels disappointed, they feel that how is it possible for a right thinking individual to agree to certain doctrines their religion teach? They would go through it and see that it makes no sense to them, yet the other totally feels it is the best.
There are possible reasons to it:
-Lack of open mindedness
-Refusal to acknowledge the truth because you are afraid to denounce what you spent years believing.
A follower of a religion eats grass, drinks poison, and do other crazy things because their religious leader told them to do it for blessing. An "outside observer" see's this and feel disturbed, they could not understand why an individual who is mentally sound would eat grass for blessing because their religious leader says so?
Another person goes out to the street and kills people, sincerely believing that by doing so, he or she is doing God's work. On this part, many would wonder if the murderer sincerely feel so, or is their perhaps an "ulterior motive" to their killing? Do they simply enjoy killing people or do they, deep down in their heart feel that killing is right?
Again, we might never really know.
Politics, just like religion is another complicated issue yet an important everyday situation we, as individual cannot hide from. We are all somehow connected to our governments, and their activities makes or break us as individuals, societies or as one human race.
As a citizen of a nation, it is naturally believed that you wish the best for your country in terms of development, economy and security.
In every nation are people with different political views and way of reasoning. People who believe their candidate is the best choice and feel the other supporters of another candidate are too blind to see the truth.
The human mind might be strange, yet one unique thing about the human mind is its ability to differentiate between right and wrong in some aspect, sometimes no matter how hard one tries to suppress it from believing in the truth, it still continue to "ring" in one's mind that no doubt this is true.
When a leader of a nation aids other politician to steal money from the nation, and fails to develop the nation, naturally every right thinking individuals know this acts are wrong yet we would have those who will still support this leader who had not done well for the country. At some point, those in opposing camp would wonder if those supporting the bad leader honestly fail to see he is bad or are they simply too blind to understand what makes a good leader?
So many questions yet little answer because understanding the human mind is such that its strangeness overwhelm the person who seeks to understand the way the mind works.
A woman is a mini-skirts looks at a Muslim woman in Hijab and feels sorry for her, believing the woman in Hijab(islamic covering) is not exposed in this 21st century for covering herself, the Muslim woman on the other hand, see's the woman in mini-skirts and deep down in her heart feels pity that a woman who claim to be right thinking would expose her body for the world to see.
Being gay is seen by "some" as being delusional behaviour while to another set of being, being gay as natural as being straight. Each feeling so strongly about their case against the other. Evidences are provided by both camp yet each person would choose what to cherry-pick in the evidence and what to deny.
One Man sincerely feels that having multiple wives is good, and much rewarding than having one wife while sleeping around with other women, another feels that having one wife is best but can have extra marital affair as far as the wife does not know.
A terrorist kills hundreds of people believing he is doing the right thing and fighting for the right course, others looks at him in wonder, trying to figure out if this man truly and sincerely feels killing innocent people is right or if he is just a delusional maniac that enjoy shedding blood.
A lot of confusion's, a lot of debates, a lot of questions- Many seek to unravel the secret of the mind, many seek to make others understand their position, many sincerely believe in their own case while insisting that every other case is wrong.
When one looks into all this, one can understand that each individual's mind should be able to tell the difference between truth and lies.
In other to know the truth and attain understanding, each individual should be open minded in other to see things differently and most importantly, in trying to understand issues, each individual must be truthful to themselves and mind.
But at the end of it all, when you make your case and the other refuses to understand or pretends not to, then all you can do is "agree to disagree" while hoping that the other would come to the truth, but what happens when each individual deep down in their heart sincerely feel they are standing with the truth even when facts prove otherwise?
Such is the human mind, filled with strangeness yet unique in its own way.
