The sincere observers of current troubling events unfolding in the nation can understand that the current trouble we find ourselves in, is no doubt as a result of years of misconduct, lack of planning for the future, lack of compassion from our leaders and on the economic font; lack of economic diversification.
This was all because of years of misrule by the ruling parties at the realm of affairs in the nation. But as it turns out, 'the past is the past' and when we keep holding on to the past as excuse for our failure, we would never move forward.
As a President of a nation, you are chosen by your people to find solutions to problems not make excuses.
When Mr Jonathan was the President of Nigeria, his supporters in aim to desperately hide some of his failure as a leader of a nation would tell us 'how Mr Jonathan inherited many problems' and on hearing such, one cannot help but marvel at the height of their delusion and hypocrisy, at that point, many sincere observers would wonder why one has to make constant excuses for a leaders failure when leaders were elected to solve the problem not make one.
The ex-president's supporters would go as far as blaming innocent people for bokoharam as a plot to undermine the then President, they would blame strong lobbying groups and cartels for electricity failure, corruption etc, they would blame people that died in immigration stampede, they would blame everyone for the problems but themselves- Something the current administration and her supporters seem to have also emulated- A circle of blame games that never ends
France President when asked if he would run for re-election if he fails to solve the economic problem of France, he replied: "If I fail to solve this problem in 4years, then it is only wise I allow another person to try because 4years is enough to solve it".
Meanwhile, somewhere in West Africa(Nigeria), we are so mentally enslaved to believe double term is 'a family inheritance of our politician' and just like the ex-president spent 5years in power without really doing anything worth re-electing him as leader of the nation, many still wanted him to retain the position- A pitiful way of thinking.
It is sad that a people totally betrayed by the system would 'worship' and celebrate those who betrayed them.
Leaders are elected to serve the people, and the earlier we 'put in mind' that we actually pay this leaders to work for us, the better for us.
We have some national organisations in Nigeria rallying to give awards to politicians. Why?
A state in the Federation is allocated billions of naira to build roads and improve infrastructure in the state, a governor puts forward about 30million to 'patch' some road and paint the side concretes, he then share 5000naira each to about 50 people in the state and then buys generator and grinding machine for another 50people, then you have the people of that state 'jumping up and down'; shouting for re-election of this governor, you have people giving him award and you have people campaigning for him, meanwhile we forget that he has not done anything. He was given billions and he spent about 1percent of the money and syphoned the remaining 99percent, yet we put them out as a hero? Meanwhile we forget that apart from syphoning this much amount of money, this 'politricktians' also get millions as salaries excluding their bogus allocation for feeding, cars, clothing, etc but for some reason we celebrate this people? It is sad but the truth is bitter and sometimes those with the courage to speak out in a society where majority hates the truth, the speaker of truth is tagged as the 'evil one'.
Any leader; call him or her a senator, house of reps, President, vice President etc that collects his full salary, then also shamelessly collects millions in car allocation, millions in fuel, feeding, sanitation etc, then that person is everything that isnt 'hero like', he is a person paid to work for you and you should NEVER put them out as a hero.
If you are desperately in need of hero's, then start with our underpaid military men, our doctors, our teachers- this are the real hero's if we are desperately yawning for one.
The 'politricktians' are just opportunist individuals who gets billions for sitting in their office and ordering people around to do the main work.
A leader knowing fully well that millions of his subjects live in abject poverty yet collects not only millions in Salary but also collects billions in feeding, clothing, cars, fuel etc, how on earth should one celebrate this type of people? Why would a citizen who directly or indirectly does not benefit special thing from this people spend time defending them?
The world is in a mess but only because many of us allow it to be so.
On the change we seek:
Stepping into the unknown(change) is scary but in other to succeed, we must always opt for the unknown and push for change, but when the unknown turns out to be bad, we must not 'wallow in regrets' and wish for the 'former' which was still bad, rather we must also opt for another change, one must keep pushing hard till one gets it right.
Never laugh at those who seek change in other to secure a better future even if that change fails- they are not the fools rather they are the brave one's whom rather than remain stagnant, decide to take a step further, there should never be a shame in that.
The current government was elected on platform of change and that Nigerians en-mass went for change shows that Nigerians are ready to move forward and if, or when this change fails, there is no single shame in it, rather there should be applauds for seeking change and one must never give up, when one change fails, one must also opt for another change until one gets it right.
Now the echo among some Nigerians is:
'is this current government really going on that positive change direction?'.
This question is easy to answer but how each individual assimilate this answer should be based of how sincere each of us are as individual. One might have laid a strong foundation and working towards a 'great end game', this can be seen by all yet some would blindly refuse to see it because they sincerely wish the person fails. In another analysis, one might not have any foundation at all and all roads shows he or she will fail, yet those who are blinded by lies will refuse to see it.
This two analysis represent the current state most people in the Nigerian nation are in, whether we like it or not.
Now ask yourself which of this analysis you fall into. It is not up to I, the writer to tell you. Your heart can always differentiate between truth and lies no matter how hard you try to shield it from doing so.
But as a Nigerian, it is only wise to wish the best for our country and it is also wise to give suggestions when we can.
When some Nigerians give advice, sometimes they do not sincerely mean well, they might be truthful, but deep down, they have an end game and sometimes they hope to make the other person look bad in other to have their own few minute 'cheap popularity' and increase their 'dwindling self esteem'.
Before I continue, it is important to note that any person, group or government that always blames others for their problem will hardly get it right. 'When you keep blaming others, you lock out the opportunity to see past that you have the ability to usher in 'positivity into the picture'.
It is time we come together as a nation to salvage our nation and this can be achieved by sincerity of our leaders and people.
The economy is in shambles, the naira is failing, while this is as a result of years of neglect and lack of planning for the future by past administrations, we must realize that the past is gone and the future must not be neglected by 'wallowing in the past' and 'instead of continually blaming the former captain for making holes in your ship; a new captain should be more concentrated in saving his sinking ship before he loses everything'.
Now there is much talk about diversification of the economy but the question now is if the current government is sincerely pushing for it?
If they haven't been pushing sincerely towards diversification, then they should probably start immediately.
'what is the President doing to save the economy?' Is another question we must ask.
But in other not to be all talk but no suggestion from this writer, here is some key suggestion I feel they should look into:
-They should work hard to restart the textile industries laying waste in Kaduna and some part of the country. When this industries existed, many families had means of income-Unemployment was low.
-They should work hard to restart the ajeokuta steel plants.
-They should work towards making a made in 9ja product as key focus such that we can export 'made in 9ja cars' to other African countries or our made in 9ja shoes can have international recognition. We can also export our native cloths(many countries enjoy new cultures) but the truth is that a country cannot fully achieve this without sincere backing from her government.
-Also, at this stage in our history, there are some things we 'must' stop importing, as a nation of over 160million+ people with many talents and blessed we natural resources, we should be the 'next china of the world'.
Why do we still try to import weapons?
Why can't we make one and export to other African nations and even rest of the world? 'The possibilities are endless yet this endless possibilities must never exist just in our wishful thinking'.
They might not trust buying weapons from us at first but when we deploy it in fights against terror groups or African union peace keeping mission, that way we indirectly test it for the world to see
Why not export our made in 9ja cars? Whatever happened to innoson motors? Why are innoson buses not used nation wide by state governments+ the Federal? Inter city shuttle buses? If they are not up to standard then we can work towards having a great standard.
How can other countries trust buying from us when we don't use the things we produce? If they cannot trust to buy from us, government must make made in 9ja car official cars for all government officials. 'We must appreciate our own before others can'.
There are many Nigerians who have publicly announced inventing many items; ranging from locally made helicopter to generator using water. If people claim to have invented such, why isn't the government visiting them to confirm and fund them? 'When we talk, we must match our talks with actions'.
It is one thing saying you want to diversify, it is another actually doing that.
At this current state we are in, it is actually crazy that anyone would praise any of our past Presidents as they are to some extent, part of the major people that push us to the problem we are in today, but what we can do is sincerely forge ahead and remind our current leaders of the challenges ahead and what must be done.
Together as a nation we can try to rebuild. We can put our past aside and work towards a better future.
Like I early started: "The possibilities are endless yet this endless possibilities must never exist just in our wishful thinking
